DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Take the resources of Dale Earnhardt, Inc., the talent of Tony Stewart and backing of Goody’s Headache Powder and you get a great combination for success.
Such will be the case for the fall NASCAR Busch Series race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway later this year. It won’t be the first time Stewart, a two-time NASCAR Nextel Cup champion, will drive a DEI-built car.
But, it will be the first time a race fan will be able to get in on the picture – literally.
As part of the promotion, Goody’s will choose a Mayor of Goody’s Country. That person will then get their picture on the hood of the No. 8 DEI Chevrolet. To get in on the racing action, click here to register for the chance to get your face in the race.
To be eligible for the grand prize, fans are asked to upload their photo and give a unique reason why they should be Mayor of Goody’s Country and how they embody NASCAR and Goody’s theme of being all about speed. Examples could include how they model their lives around speed or their NASCAR traditions and history
The nomination period ends July 23 at the conclusion of the Goody’s 250 NASCAR Busch Series Race weekend at Martinsville Speedway. A total of 50 candidates will be chosen from the entries. Voting will then take place on www.goodyspowder.com from August 1 through September 24 when the candidate with the most votes will be named the new Mayor of Goody’s Country.
The newly elected Mayor of Goody’s Country will have his or her face painted on Stewart’s No. 8 race car to be unveiled at Talladega Superspeedway in October and attended by the winner. The Mayor will also be a VIP guest of Goody’s and receive tickets to the NASCAR Busch Series and NEXTEL Cup races at Charlotte in October.
“We feel we have some unfinished business with Tony in one of our Busch cars,” said Richie Gilmore, Vice President of Operations for Dale Earnhardt, Inc. “We had Tony in one of our cars before (Michigan, 2004) and led a bunch of laps. We thought we had it won until we pitted and then it rained.
“That was one race we felt we should’ve won. So, with the help of Goody’s, we’re going to put Tony in one of our cars and try it again. We’re looking forward to the fall race in Charlotte. It’s going to be pretty good with him and having Tony Eury, Sr. as his crew chief on the deal.
“Goody’s has a long history in the sport and we have a good reputation with what we’ve done with our No. 8 car Busch car. Now, we’re putting Tony in the car and someone’s face on the hood to make it even more interesting.”
Stewart, who sporadically dabbles in the Busch Series, said he likes the idea of getting in the DEI No. 8 Goody’s Powder Chevrolet this fall.
“I think it’s pretty cool a race fan is going to get their picture on the hood,” Steward said. “That’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I don’t think any other sponsor in NASCAR has done something this unique.
“For me getting to work with Tony Sr this time is going to be something unique, too. It’s going to be a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to this race.”
“We are encouraging race fans to enter the Mayor of Goody’s Country contest www.goodyspowder.com to win the grand prize and the opportunity to be on Tony Stewart’s No. 8 DEI racecar,” said Darren Singer, Vice President of Goody’s Marketing. “The concept of Goody’s Country was born out of our brand heritage and our longstanding NASCAR relationship, both of which have deep roots in the Southeast. It’s only fitting the Mayor of Goody’s country is a diehard NASCAR fan.”
