This year, the No. 11 Menards Chevrolet team will have Dan Stillman returning to lead the No. 11 Menards Chevrolet team.
Like the team’s driver, Paul Menard, Stillman also hails from Wisconsin. He’s been with Dale Earnhardt, Inc. since 2000 as the shock specialist for the No. 8 Budweiser team. In December of 2004, he was promoted to crew chief for the No. 11 team.
Dan, 41, was a Late Model driver at Wisconsin International Raceway where he won a feature and was rookie of the year in 1989. This isn’t his first time as a crew chief, either. After a few years of driving, he hung up his helmet to become a crew chief for Scott Hanson in the ASA ranks. In 1997, he moved to North Carolina to work in NASCAR.
He started out hanging car bodies for Roush Racing before being hired by Ricky Rudd’s team in 1998. For a brief period, he was the interim crew chief for Rudd during the 1999 season before a full-time one was hired later that year.
In 2000, he was hired by DEI because of his knowledge with shock and spring packages. His work and expertise helped guide the No. 8 team to 15 Cup wins – including the 2004 Daytona 500. That experience, coupled with his prior experience were keys to the success Menard and the No. 11 team in enjoyed in Busch Series competition this year.
The Busch Pole Award at Talladega, leading laps at the season opener in Daytona and surging from 20 th to sixth in points let everyone know the team means business this year. And, Stillman is the one who will lead them into that first trip to Victory Lane.
