ALABAMA JOINS IN THE ALL-STAR TRIBUTE TO HONOR NASCAR WINSTON CUP CHAMPION DALE EARNHARDT

Mooresville, NC – June 10, 2003 – It was in the early 1980s when a friend brought a young driver to meet Randy Owen from the multi-Grammy Award winning group Alabama to his home in Ft. Payne, Ala. The determined young driver was Dale Earnhardt who would eventually capture seven NASCAR Winston Cup championships and become a household name throughout America. That introduction turned into a long-lasting friendship for Randy and Dale.

"We knew each other for quite awhile," Randy said. "Around 1982, a friend of mine Ralph Seagraves called and said he wanted to bring this racing boy by the house. I didn't know who Dale was because he was just getting started. All my friend said was, 'that this guy could drive a darn race car.' “

Over two decades later, Randy Owen and the members of the acclaimed country music group Alabama, will pause during their 40-city “Farewell” tour to perform at the Dale Earnhardt Tribute Concert on Saturday, June 28th, at the legendary Daytona International Speedway. At the request of Teresa, Randy and Alabama were asked to sing at the benefit concert honoring the seven-time NASCAR champion. Alabama knew this was one event they wanted to play.

"For me, I think it's important that we do the best that we can to help Teresa continue on
with Dale's legacy," said Randy.

Joining Alabama to perform at the daylong all-star Dale Earnhardt Tribute Concert on
June 28th will be Brooks & Dunn, Kenny Chesney, Sheryl Crow, the goo goo dolls, Hootie & The Blowfish and a special guest appearance by Delbert McClinton. The Dale Earnhardt Tribute Concert will benefit the Dale Earnhardt Foundation, which Teresa Earnhardt established to carry on Dale’s name and good works through the charitable causes he championed during his lifetime.
